If you’ve been following this substack (thank you, by the way!), you may have seen my post about my first ‘All Day Declutter’. As I shared with you there, I was initially disappointed with my progress that day. But, after stepping back and checking my unrealistic expectations, it was actually an awesome success. In about four hours I managed to clean out the half of our garage piled with bins, boxes, orphan donations, trash, recycling, and just random stuff. Our bikes now stand together as an island surrounded by clear floor! I know I still have work to do in there, but this is a big win for me. I no longer feel stressed by the chaos every time I go into the garage, so that is definitely worth something.
So, if I was able to accomplish all this, in addition to some work in the primary bedroom, what on earth is ‘Part II’?
Well … the donations need to get to the donation center somehow :) Even with all the work I had done, it is really only complete once the items are completely gone out of the house. I didn’t have time directly after the ADD to drive the items to the donation center, so I needed to take care of that while out running other errands. Last year I was able to use a donation pickup, but that organization stopped their (amazing!) service. Now getting stuff out of the house is a little less convenient, but that’s just how things go sometimes. I was fortunately able to find a thrift store that takes bulk donations and dropping them off was easy.
Glad that’s done- Now for getting some books, batteries, and textile recycling out as well! (Does that mean there’s a Part III?)
What is your strategy for getting donations and other items out of your house? Would love to hear your thoughts!
